Keratosis pilaris is hereditary, so you have your parents to blame for your condition. The most commonly affected areas are the arms (both upper and lower), front of the thighs, calves, back, chest, buttocks, and cheeks. Anywhere that hair can grow, it can occur, so basically, everywhere but your palms and the soles of your feet.

Keratosis pilaris is a disorder where the skin creates too much of a protein called keratin. This keratin will clog the pores, which results in raised bumps on the back of your upper arms. These bumps can also occur in many other places: lower arms, thighs, buttocks, face, chest, back, and calves (in no specific order).

During the summer, keratosis pilaris tends to clear up a little because the sun reduces a lot of the redness and bumping; also, the high amount of moisture in the air does your skin wonders, but due to many people being insecure of their ugly skin, they'll cover it up from everyone, which is actually doing more harm than good.

It's completely hereditary and not contagious, so if you have anyone to blame, it should be your parents because one of them probably has it too. It most commonly occupies the upper arms and thighs but can also be located on the face, buttocks, calves, lower arms, back, and chest. Basically, anywhere that can grow hair, it has the possibility of showing up there, but some places are much more common than others.

Warts can become resident on due to direct contact with a form of the human papillomavirus. Flat warts in particular can be transmitted between hosts by sharing shaving razors. These itchy red warts can also spread into several areas of the body by using the same shaver on the face, hands or arms once infected with the virus.

Although skin types that have keratosis pilaris need constant moisture, it must come from the right source to provide successful results. If you are using commercially sold lotion products, or even worse, lotions that contain added fragrance, then you could be further clogging the pores in the areas of your skin that have keratosis pilaris. What this simply means is that by using lotions with comedogenic ingredients, your skin condition will be made even worse.

The rash begins with an itch that later develops into inflamed, red skin. Scratching the itch will only make the eczema rash worse. Some other symptoms are flaky, scaly, dry skin, red skin, inflamed skin, a burning itching rash, oozing when scratched, may turn brown where the skin is scaly, red bumps. If eczema rashes or red eczema go untreated they can become worse, the worse the rash gets the harder it is to treat and it will take more time to get relief from the uncomfortable skin condition.

For reasons unbeknownst to dermatologists, the sun does a GREAT job with clearing up the skin. It reduces a lot of redness and sends many of the bumps packing for the hills. As always, be very careful when dealing with overexposure to the sun because of skin cancer.
