Xenophobia

By Addison adam at 2011-01-20 03:56:23

Japanese xenophobia should be understood properly prior to jumping to any reactive conclusions. Xenophobia is not really racism, although it can occasionally cross the line in Japan and both are occasionally evidenced. For Japanese society any xenophobia is more of a fear of the unknown and a fear of being overpowered by that which is unknown. In all honesty, many people in Japan are rather intimidated by other countries and also their relatively large people.

Our current system of immigration is deeply broken when people who came here when they were two years old and who now are 22 and are still considered "illegal immigrants " who need to be deported to a country they do not even know. It is broken when at the school of my cousin (in South Carolina); the valedictorian of the class can't go to a state college because she is still considered illegal even though she grew up in the United States.

So, it seems like we do not really hate foreigners or immigrants, if they come to our side with plenty of cash and beauty to share with us. Any way you look at it, this is a very disgusting practice because just a handful of our great grandparents came to America with pockets full of cash; but today, we open up our doors to wealthy fellows that might not be liked in their own backyards. Let's face it. Perhaps, we do not despise immigrants that much. Only the poor ones.

A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples" [Wikipedia]. Regardless of where you fall personal on the spectrum of political opinion, you have to be at least a little awestruck at the recent US presidential election. There's a reason why there's been such an outpouring of public jubilation: as a country, we've just punched through another critical cultural barrier that for generations has kept our country from achieving its highest aspirations.

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reported in fiscal year of 2000 there were 7792 cases for discrimination due to national origin, while it had risen to 8025 cases in 2001 and 9042 in 2002. After 9/ 11 attack Bush administration started their security actions in United States for "war on terror" such as: intimidations, inspection, threatening and ridiculing against Muslims and people from South Asian origins who were suspected to terrorism.

Another group of people share most of your life, for example family, life-long friends, and your marriage partner. Where a marriage breaks up and there are children involved, the ex-marriage partner also shares the rest of your life with you, but in a different way. They are there for a life-time.

The unemployment rate in the US is currently at around 9%, yet most of the unemployed did not hold white collar jobs in engineering or healthcare. Most of the unemployed actually worked in manufacturing or construction. These people are not competing with highly educated individuals from Asia and Europe for jobs, they are competing with illegal immigrants who are willing to do jobs the Americans do not want for less money.

Xenophobia is not just something that a person decides to feel, it is naturally coded into them and is a mental wave. People suffering from this will genuinely believe deep inside that anybody different to themselves can hurt or harm them. A certain level of this phobia can exist in other people in their day to day lives also.
